Match Report

THERE comes a point where you might have to admit that this really isn't your season.

Dumbarton aren't at that stage yet. They still have to win through two playoff ties to attach some success to the 2017/18 campaign.

But right now, that point feels pretty close.

When one defeat is followed by another to the same opposition, Inverness CT, and you lose your goalkeeper to injury, the doubt starts to creep in.

By the time Scott Gallacher was wheeled off, he had conceded the only goal of the game to Iain Vigurs on 56 minutes.

This, and the remaining two scheduled league games, are immaterial to Sons' final position in this year's Championship. They were already condemned to ninth place by Falkirk's win over St Mirren the previous night.

But the breaks have to change soon, as currently everything that can go wrong is doing exactly that.

A Dumbarton side featuring six changes to the team defeated 5-1 in Inverness four days earlier started fairly well. Tom Walsh met Dimitris Froxylias' cross at the back post but headed over.

On the whole, though, the first half was distinctly forgettable fare. Shots by Vigurs and then, right on half time, Liam Burt each rolled wide and that was really it.

Aaron Doran was well placed for Caley Thistle early in the second half but shot over, before Mark Stewart headed past.

The visitors, though, were finding their stride and after Nathan Austin's header was off target, they scored.

A cross from the left wasn't dealt with and Vigurs put away the loose ball.

Aside from a Liam Polworth shot from distance which sub keeper Jamie Ewings did well to turn away, that was all there was resembling a further goal.

Very few people who saw this game will recall it as a classic, and in a few weeks probably won't recall it at all.
