Greenock Morton 2 - 3 Dumbarton
Challenge Cup (1st Round)
Kevin was born on this date in Glasgow.

DUMBARTON started the new season positively with a 3-2 Petrofac Training Cup win over neighbours Greenock Morton at a sunny Cappielow. Two goals for Grant Gallagher — the first a well-worked header and the second a sharply drilled shot — gave Sons a comfortable lead by the end of the first half. But after Sons went three up in the second half, Morton struck back with two goals, testing the visitors in the final minutes of the game.
DUMBARTON crashed out of the Scottish League Cup in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw with East Fife at Methil. Nathan Austin put the home side a goal up early in the second half before Kevin Cawley scored his first competitive goal for the Sons midway through the half. When the sides could not be separated after 90 minutes, and still after 120 minutes, the game went to penalties. Despite the home side missing two penalties out of their first five and Sons having two chances to win the lottery, a miss from Cawley was decisive as the League Two side progressed. Sons gaffer Stevie Aitken sent out an unchanged line-up after last weeks impressive 3-2 win over Morton, but he struggled to make his players find the same high tempo that was there last week.
EIGHTEEN minutes felt more like eighteen hours.
AND so it all ends, with Dumbarton playing out a low-key, end-of-season affair with Alloa Athletic with limited drama.
