Match Report

Dumbarton’s 2022/23 season came to an end with a goalless draw in the second-leg of the cinch League One play-off semi-final against Annan Athletic.
The damage had been done for Sons at Galabank where the home side ran out 6-0 winners in the first-leg.
There was just one change from the first-leg with Ally Love replacing Kalvin Orsi on the right-hand side with the Sons wide man suspended following his red card a few days earlier.
Chances were few and far between for much of the afternoon with Finlay Gray having Dumbarton’s first effort when he cut in from the right but dragged his shot wide and the division’s top goal scorer Tommy Goss nodded over the bar for Annan.
He was nearly in again on 13 minutes but Brett Long raced off his line sharply to deny him and prevent the towering striker from getting a shot away.
At the other end, Gregor Buchanan headed the ball across goal from a corner and into the path of Declan Byrne however he couldn’t help the ball into the net in a busy penalty area and Ryan Blair had a low free-kick well held by Greg Fleming.
In the second-half, Sons failed to do much in front of goal until the closing quarter of an hour when substitute Russell McLean was unfortunate to see his header cleared off the line and Buchanan had an acrobatic volley gathered by Fleming.
The Annan shotstopper was called into action again with the last notable moment of the tie as he got across his line quickly to tip over David Wilson’s free-kick.
Annan will now meet Clyde in the final with a spot in next season cinch League One the reward for the winner of the two-legged tie.
