A FINE second half fightback gave Dumbarton a 3-1 advantage going into Thursday's second leg.
Robbie McIntyre fired the hosts in front on the cusp of half-time. However, Ross Forbes inspired the fightback, setting up all three of the Sons' second-half goals.
After early midfield exchanges, Sons first goal attempt came on 14 minutes when Adam Frizzell got on the end of an intricate passing move to fire in a long range effort just wide. Six minutes later, Forbes gave us a glimpse of what was to come with a fierce shot from 30 yards that was well saved by Calum Antell.
On 41 minutes City had their best chance of the half which ended with a header going just wide. That warning wasn't heeded by Sons and on the stroke of halftime the home side took the lead. The ball broke to Robbie McIntyre who sent a low shot low into the far corner of the net.
Forbes wasn't long getting back into the action when, on 48 minutes, he had another shot saved by Antell. However, the leveller wasn't long in arriving when eight minutes after the restart, following a short corner, he crossed for Ryan McGeever to nod in the equaliser at close range. On 67 minutes, he had another effort on goal when his effort was parried by Antell, but Tomas Brindley was following up to score his first goal in a Dumbarton shirt to put Sons ahead.
With eight minutes left it was 3-1 - from another assist by Forbes. This time he sent in a free kick from the corner of the box and Morgyn Neill headed in to make it a centre half double for the night.
Funnily enough, Ross picked up the BBC Alba Man of the Match award. Speaking to the cameras after the game, he said: "It was a bit disappointing to concede just before half-time but we stuck in and fought right until the end.
"It's pleasing to get the win but we know the job is not done yet. It was a tough game tonight. Edinburgh City are a tough team, they play really good football. They will throw everything at us on Thursday."
