RETURNING to the location of our last game prior to lockdown, Sons lost out to the odd goal in five in this BetFred league cup section match.
As is playing behind closed doors isn't strange enough, the sky was blue and the sun shining at Broadwood: not a phrase you read often.
Sons had an early chance when PJ turned and shot wide before Clyde had an even better chance to open the scoring.
Jamie Bain fired a cross into the box and David Goodwillie connected with a powerful header from close range but Kevin Dabrowski made a magnificent save.
However, that just delayed the opening goal. A minute later Barry Cuddihy picked up the ball and sent a screamer into the roof of the net from around 30 yards.
Dabrowski pulled off another good save from Josh Jack's free-kick before the lead was doubled midway through the half after referee Scott Lambie decided, after some delay, that Ryan McGeever had fouled Goodwillie in the box. Clyde's captain made no mistake with the spot kick.
Sons got back into the game five minutes before half-time when Chris Hamilton pulled a goal back.
He got behind the Clyde defence, cut back inside and crashed the ball into the net past giving David Mitchell in the Clyde goal no chance to save.
Sons had fought back into contention but right on the stroke of half-time, Clyde restored their two goal advantage. Jack picked out Ross Cunningham with a precision pass, and he took a touch before rifling the ball home.
The half-time team talk took place on the pitch and within ten minutes of the re-start, Sons narrowed the scoreline again.
The advocates of 'it's a simple game' would have loved this effort. A corner from the left from Ross Forbes found Robert Jones who headed the ball home.
While Sons pressed for the equaliser, there wasn't as much goalmouth action as the first half and it wasn't until the 88th minutes that a gilt edged chance was produced.
Standing 12 yards out, Jones produced a powerful effort that was well held by Mitchell.
Right on the final whistle, Hamilton, who had moved to right back in place of Sam Wardrop was shown a straight red card as the game entered the final minute, for a tackle on Cuddihy.
