SO, that was the road to Hampden.
It's been a decent road for Dumbarton in recent years. The last 16 in two of the last three seasons, while Aberdeen in 2014 is still reasonably fresh in the memory.
And it was the man who managed them at Pittodrie who ended this season's road in 90 sobering minutes at Airdrie.
Ian Murray was in the opposition dugout this time as his Diamonds side coasted to a 3-0 victory, Sons' second consecutive reverse by that scoreline.
Kyle Wilkie scored either side of Darryl Duffy also finding the target.
Despite a second half improvement by Dumbarton which saw chances missed, this really was not much of a contest.
Much like events at Station Park seven days previously, this was not easy to watch.
They could actually have opened the scoring, or rather had it done for them, on 20 minutes when Sean Crighton deflected a cross from the left towards his own goal. The keeper saved just in time.
And seven minutes later Airdrie were in front, Wilkie applying a low, angled finish.
After a further nine minutes Duffy had the home side two goals ahead with a simple close range finish after a free kick was headed across goal.
A Ross Forbes free kick tested the Diamonds goalkeeper near half time, but matching last season's Scottish Cup progress was already proving a tall order.
Michael Paton and Calum Gallagher had opportunities in the early second half, before another one fell to the latter, whose header hit the crossbar from six yards. Yes, it was that type of afternoon.
With 20 minutes left, sub keeper Jamie McGowan was brought on by Dumbarton, and a minute later his first touch was to retrieve the ball from the back of his net.
Wilkie bent home a shot from the edge of the area which went in off the post.
A Bobby Barr shot which was well saved was all that resembled a consolation goal from there.
